Welcome

The Blue Parrot is unique in its ability to bring history to life through the vision of its proprietor Joyce Carr and the talents of Hollywood costume designer Gretchen Spiess.   Visit us and watch as the 1800's and early 1900's come to life in elegant teas, hands-on workshops, vintage dances, historic fashions, and original-design Victorian lampshades.

Guest Artist Teas
&
Cream Tea Socials

For an introduction to the elegance and graciousness of the Victorian period, begin with a formal Fashion Show Tea.  The Victorian Ladies Tea Guild models their own fashions dating from 1865 to the early 1900's.  Relax, sip tea and nibble light refreshments while learning little known facts about the history and culture of the Victorian era presented in an entertaining and educational manner.

If you prefer a more relaxed program, try a Guest Artist Tea.  These Teas are less formal and feature talented local speakers.  We have been entertained with lectures on porcelain painting, quilting, parlor music, and geneology.

Finally, for an afternoon break, try one of our Cream Tea Socials.  Cream Tea nibbles, fashion tips, and tea etiquette are offered in a quiet calming atmosphere.

These Teas are available for your own event as well.  We will come to you, or you may use our studio in Stevensville.

The Studio

We have adapted the name of our establishment from the Blue Parrot Tea House of the early 1920's.  The original was located in Missoula at 515 University Avenue.  Our Blue Parrot contains both a Victorian Boutique and a large hall.  When the hall is set for teas, it sparkles with crystal, china, and silver.  At other times, we put away the tea trappings and use the room for vintage dances.  The hall is also our Community Room and is available for groups.  Consider using it for your events such as:

  • hats
  • Victorian Dressing demonstration
  • Victorian Crafts

  • and more . . . . .

For a complete list of current workshops, see the Calendar of Events.  Check back periodically as workshops and events are added when there is a demand for them.

Custom Pieces

We have several one-of-a-kind gowns and lampshades available for purchase, or you may order a custom piece made to your design or designed for you.  Our seamstress is designer Gretchen Spiess of The Golden Needle, and our lampshade artist is Joyce Carr, proprietor of The Blue Parrot.

If you need a period costume in a hurry for a lot less money, perhaps we can help.  We have several gowns, dresses, hats and accessories available to rent.  Each piece is unique so be sure to look for what is available in your size.
